Dear members and friends,

The purpose of this letter is to bring you up to date with recent developments at the Midmar Canoe Club (MID) and to make the revised application forms available as there are now two membership options available to all MID members.

In order for Midmar Canoe Club to operate as it does within the Midmar Ezemvelo Resort premises, it has to have an affiliation with one of the existing sporting clubs who have access to premises within the Midmar resort.

To date the MID affiliation has been with the Howick Athletics Club (HAC). This membership option is indicated as the “Standard Membership” option on the MID member application form attached. Since the club’s inception this has been the case (although some members may have been unaware of this). A portion of the annual MID fee has always included the portion of the fee paid to HAC. This does also automatically give one membership to HAC (unfortunately the HAC fee is not optional and is a compulsory fee in order to be part of MID under the Standard Membership option for reasons stated above).

During the course of 2022 representatives from MID negotiated a further membership option, open to all canoeists, to have a canoe membership option affiliated with the Henley Midmar Yacht Club (HMYC). This has enabled MID to offer a second “Premier Membership” option to our members. The HMYC facility is situated on the water’s edge, and has an extensive clubhouse consisting of a hall, bar area, change rooms and showers, as well as braai facilities etc. Further to this HMYC have agreed to build canoe racks within their secure premises for canoeists. They have a camping area within their fenced premises which will also be available to MID Premier Membership members.

MID Premier Membership will give members selecting this option access to these facilities seven days a week (members will receive a disc enabling access).

The HMYC facility will however be open to all canoeists participating in the weekly MID dice every Tuesday. (Open to all MID members and any other canoeists & friends & family attending). The bar is open every Tuesday and braai fires will be available for all too.

We definitely feel this is a win/win scenario for all, and enables canoeists access to some of the most pristine pieces of water available in the country, coupled with access to a really magnificent facility in what HMYC has to offer.
